Web 1.0 vs. Web 2.0

I have to be honest, I had to Google Web 1.0 and Web 2.0. I had a basic understanding that Web 2.0 was a more advanced use of the web, but wanted to be clear. So, I'm going to give it a shot. Over the summer, we read articles and collaborated with each other, but we didn't change the web or create anything on the web per se, so we were just using information provided and gave responses as needed. In Web 2.0, you can create blogs, podcasts, digital video, etc. and post it to the web for the benefit of others. In doing this, not only are you utilizing existing information (if needed) from the web, you are creating information as well to share.

Podcasts

We've done several podcasts. Podcasts are episodic audio clips done on a particular subject. I think they can be useful, but I honestly haven't followed any. I think they could be fun if done through a school, particularly if they're done based on a sport. For example, just listing who won, scored, etc. or giving important information for that week regarding the sport at the school.

Digital Video

It's been fun doing videos. I'm always a little self conscious about my look and voice, but they've become easier to do as we do more. The editing part is still new to me. Thank goodness for Christina and Lynn! I'm not much help yet, but I'm learning. I think this is a good tool for students to learn. It's always going to be around in some capacity, so if they learn it now, they should be able to learn the newer technology as it comes out, faster.
